Citibank Cashback Credit Card - Review

When it comes to credit cards, we are not much of a fan of Citibank for a couple of reasons.

First being low credit limit. They give a shallow credit limit, and that's it, they seldom enhance the credit limit on periodic reviews.

Second, being the dull and unattractive set of credit cards in their inventory.

That being said, Citibank Cashback Credit Card is no different. It's just a mediocre credit card that offers the following :

5% Cashback on movie ticket purchases

    - 5% Cashback on all Movie ticket purchases subject to a maximum of Rs.100 per month.

5% Cashback on telephone & utility bill payments

    - 5% Cashback on all Utility bill payments enrolled and charged to Citi Bill Pay or paid through Citibank Online Payments, subject to a maximum of Rs 100 per month.

0.5% Cashback on all other spends

    - So basically you will earn a cashback of Rs 500 if you spend a whopping Rs 1,00,000 on your card.

     1% Fuel surcharge waiver

    - The waiver is applicable only when the transaction is done on Citibank EDC machines at Indian Oil outlets only.

    • Redemption Process

    - On accumulation of Rs.500, the cashback will be automatically credited into the cardholder’s account. If the Cashback earned for the month is less than Rs.500, the remaining Cashback will be carried over to the next month’s statement until a minimum of Rs.500 is earned.

    • Annual fee

    INR 500 + Applicable Taxes
(Waived off if the spends in a year exceed 30k INR)

    • Bottom line

Not worth it. We hold this card but barely use it because we don't think it's worth it.

Why on earth would someone take care of such intangible Cashback criteria like finding an Indian Oil Petrol Pump and then getting the card swiped at Citibank EDC only?

Why would someone not use those numerous & attractive Cashback offers on BookMyShow than to bang head with Citibank criteria?

Why would someone not use StanChart Super Value Titanium Credit Card that offers much better Cashback on utility bill payments including Cashback on fuel transactions rather than taking care of Citibank payment gateways and EDCs for paying bills against 5% Cashback that too capped at mere Rs 100?

    At least we won't.
